Matt Jukes, Hull City Council Chief Executive and elections Returning Officer has today published the Notice of Election in the Guildhall. The pre-election period is now underway, running from the publication of Notice of Election to the close of polls at 10pm on Thursday 2 May.
One seat in 19 out of Hull’s 21 wards is up for election, whilst Bricknell and University wards do not have elections this year.
Matt Jukes said: “With our local elections fast approaching, I’d like to encourage all residents aren’t already registered to register to vote. In particular, any residents who have moved house, changed their name or turned 18 in the last year will need to register so that they are able to vote.
“These elections are the opportunity for residents to have their say on who represents them on Hull City Council, dealing with decisions and issues that directly affect day-to-day life in Hull.”
The deadline to register to vote is Friday 12 April and it takes just five minutes on-line at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
Poll cards will be issued to all registered electors in wards with elections from Monday 25 March.
People who cannot get to a polling station on Thursday 2 May can apply to vote by post, or by proxy. Application forms are available from www.yourvotematters.co.uk
The deadline for new postal vote applications or for changes to an existing postal or proxy vote is 5pm on Monday 15 April.
The deadline for new proxy vote applications is 5pm on Wednesday 24 April.
