Maritime Tales Week, which will take place between Saturday 24 October and Sunday 1 November, is the first of its kind to be delivered by the Hull Maritime project.
Hull is one of the great maritime cities of the world, a place where ships and seafarers have come and gone for hundreds of years, leaving in their wakes countless stories of excitement, danger, loss and triumph.
Maritime Tales Week will feature many stories inspired by Hull’s rich maritime heritage, collections, buildings and vessels. The fun activities will bring the stories to life.
In response to Covid-19, all activities are online and available via social media and the Hull Maritime website and there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

The week of story-telling, craft activities, interviews and films will explore the many moving and fascinating stories. It will also include details of the £30m project that will see significant improvements to the Hull Maritime Museum, Dock Office Chambers, North End Shipyard, Arctic Corsair and the Spurn Lightship.
As part of the programme local theatre company, Theatre on the Edge will perform a four-part performance which will follow the harrowing voyage of the Hull whaling ship, The Diana. They are also preparing a very special performance for primary schools in which Captain Gravill, the commander of The Diana, will answer questions that he has been sent by local pupils.
In addition, people will have the chance to hear poems written by the Hull Maritime Museum’s new Poet-In Residence, along with stories from Hull’s fishing industry and craft activity videos.
Maritime Tales Week will feature stories including The Jumblies.
Councillor Daren Hale, Portfolio Holder for Economic Investment, Regeneration, Planning, Land and Property, said: “This is the first Maritime Tales Week and while sadly we are unable to deliver the programme at locations across the city, there will be plenty of fun maritime-themed activities, tales and videos for you to enjoy from the comfort of your own home.”
