Hull City Council statement:
“We have a duty to keep the city centre in a sanitary condition for all residents and visitors and, earlier today, we carried out a deep clean of the area under the former BHS building canopy in Hull City Centre. Prior to doing so, our Outreach team spoke to the three people who intermittently use the area to sleep rough offering them accommodation and reassuring them that their belongings would be safe whilst the cleaning was carried out. No one needs to sleep rough in Hull, especially at Christmastime. Clean, warm dry and secure accommodation places are available immediately for those who want them. If anyone is worried about people sleeping rough, rather than approach them directly, please contact the Emmaus Outreach team on 01482 223722.
