Free school meals to continue for eligible children

Coronavirus: Eligible children will continue to receive free school meals

Free school meals provision for those that are eligible will continue across Hull schools.

For the next two weeks initially, primary school children will continue to receive meals through pick up packs at school or delivery for isolated children. This will be done by school staff and volunteers. A national voucher scheme may be introduced soon.

Special schools, pupil referral units and secondary schools will be issuing vouchers for children that are eligible for free school meals, but many will cater on site for those attending school. Full details will be on each schools’ website.

All schools in Hull will continue to be open for children of key workers, however the advice is for children to stay at home if at all possible to fight against COVID-19 at this critical point in time.

Only one parent within the family needs to be on the key worker list to access a school, which will be staffed by teachers and support staff working on a rota basis.

If a child needs specialist support, is vulnerable or has an Educational Health and Care Plan, they can also access educational provision.

Hull City Council continues to work with primary and secondary schools via the Learning Partnership to develop a city-wide approach to keeping children safe, supporting learning and providing access to school for children of key workers and those who are considered to be vulnerable.
