Hull City Council has announced that essential maintenance work on Bricknell Avenue will start next week.
The work will improve a 53-metre stretch of the existing inbound carriageway between the junction of Strathcona Avenue and Hotham Road North.
The intention of the work is to reconstruct and resurface the failed area of the carriageway, to ensure the highway provides a safe and even surface for traffic, and that it has adequate grip and skid resistance.
The work will start on Monday 26 August and is planned to take two weeks to complete – weather permitting.
To minimise disruption, these works will be carried out in two phases:
- Phase one – Excavation and reconstruction works from Monday 26 August to Monday 2 September. To allow this phase to be completed safely, an inbound lane closure and six parking bays will be suspended. Traffic will be diverted through the parking and cycle lanes.
- Phase two – Resurfacing of the inbound traffic lane and cycle lane from Monday 2 September to Sunday 8 September. This phase will be undertaken using overnight road closures from 7pm to 6am the following day. A diversion route will be in place for inbound traffic via Hull/Cottingham Road and Fairfax Avenue.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, and highways, said: “As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining the safety and quality of our road network, I am pleased to see this investment in Bricknell Avenue.
“This type of work is vital to ensure the longevity and reliability of our roads, as well as enhancing the overall driving experience for residents and visitors alike.
“We understand that roadworks can be inconvenient, and we thank residents and motorists for their patience and understanding whilst we carry out these works.”
The work will be carried out by local contractor, M.B Roche & Sons Limited, on behalf of Hull City Council.
