All the fun – none of the hangover: Hull’s Low Ale Trail

As ‘Mad Friday’ approaches, there’s an option for anyone who wants all the fun of a night out, with a clear head the next day. Hull’s Low Ale Trail is ready and waiting, with a total of 35 venues offering a wide range of non-alcoholic drinks. There are three trails across the city; Old Town, Avenues, and theatre quarter & ferensway, including many of the city’s most popular watering holes.

From no and low alcohol beers to mocktails and zero per cent spirits, the Low Ale Trails have something to suit every taste in tipples. The trails also incorporate venues offering food, live music and other entertainment.

Cllr Linda Chambers, Portfolio Holder for Public Health, said: “Christmas is an ideal time to take advantage of the Low Ale Trails. You can plan a completely alcohol-free night out, or just reduce your alcohol consumption.

“Many people, particularly younger generations, are drinking less, and many people also want to cut down. This is a great way to have a night out; enjoy the taste of a beer or a cocktail, but without the hangover or a taxi home.

“The venues which are part of the trails are as varied as the drinks; from new cocktail venues to Old Town pubs which have been open for over a hundred years.

“In terms of health, the NHS is clear that cutting back benefits all drinkers, even those who don’t drink heavily. It can help you sleep better, save money, reduce blood pressure and cholesterol and feel more energetic”.
