Hull City Council and Northern Gas Networks (NGN) are working together on a project in Hull and ensuring disruption to local residents is kept to a minimum.
The works will see NGN – which delivers gas to 2.9 million homes and businesses across the North of England – install a new gas connection to the former East Riding Hotel pub at the junction of Bridlington Avenue and Cannon Street in Hull.
Once this is complete, Hull City Council will carry out their essential carriageway resurfacing programme in the same location reducing disruption by carrying out both schemes within a two-week timeframe.
The planned works are due to commence on Monday 21 September and are scheduled to be completed by Friday 2 October, weather permitting.
For the safety of the public, and the teams on-site, these works will be carried out in the following phases:
Phase 1 – Monday 21 September to Sunday 27 September. Installation of a new gas connection to the former East Riding Hotel pub by NGN. Road closure at the junction of Bridlington Avenue and Cannon Street.
Phase 2 – Monday 28 September to Friday 2 October. Hull City Council resurfacing scheme. Road closure remains in place on Bridlington Avenue and the junction with Cannon Street.
Advance warning signs and a fully signed diversion route will be in place.
Throughout the scheme, access will be maintained for residents, bin collections will continue as normal and emergency access will be maintained where possible.
Residents and businesses will receive a letter with more information, including contact details.
The resurfacing works are part of the council’s capital maintenance programme, aimed at improving Hull’s highway infrastructure.

“By coordinating our resurfacing work with Northern Gas Networks, we can get both jobs completed together and avoid residents and businesses facing two separate periods of disruption.
“We appreciate people’s patience while these essential works are carried out.”

The resurfacing works will be completed by EC Surfacing on behalf of the council.
