Two-phase reconstruction for Anlaby Park Road South

Hull City Council is preparing to begin a two-phase road reconstruction programme on Anlaby Park Road South later this month (September).

As part of the council’s commitment to improving the city’s road network, the Highways Capital Programme will fund an essential reconstruction programme on Anlaby Park Road South, from Tilbury Road to number 174.

The intention of the programme is to reconstruct deteriorated areas of the carriageway, to ensure the highway provides a safe, even, and skid-resistant surface for all road users.

The work will start on Monday 23 September and is planned to take eight weeks to complete – weather permitting.

To allow these works to be done safely, they will be completed under a full road closure, in two phases:

Phase one: Monday 23 September to Friday 25 October – Tilbury Road to 113 Anlaby Park Road South.

Phase two: Saturday 26 October to Friday 15 November – 113 to 174 Anlaby Park Road South.

Signed diversion routes will be in place via Tilbury Road, Bethune Avenue, and Gower Road depending on the direction of travel.

For motorists travelling from the north to Christopher Pickering Primary School, the diversion will extend to Hessle Road and Graham Avenue leading onto Burnham Road.

While these works are being carried out, some resident disruption may occur, however, works have been planned to minimise this.

The pedestrian footways will remain open, and bin collections are scheduled to continue as normal, but due to the full road closure, emergency vehicles will not have through access.

The existing carriageway has deteriorated.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways, said: “The council has identified that sections of Anlaby Park Road South are in need of repair.

“As a council, we are committed to futureproofing our road network, as well as providing safe and reliable road surfaces for all users.

“We urge motorists to take note of the diversion routes, plan their journeys in advance, and use an alternative mode of transport if possible.

“I would also like to apologise in advance for any disruptions these works may cause, particularly to residents of Anlaby Park Road South, however, we are confident that any disruptions will be worthwhile once the programme is complete.”

The scheme has been funded by Hull City Council’s Highway Capital Programme and will be carried out by Wright Civil Engineering Limited on behalf of the council.
