Picnic in the Park event in celebration of Learning Disability Week

Hull City Council organised a Picnic in the Park event in East Park in honour of Learning Disability Week.

The council invited people they provide service support to for a day of fun and celebration.

In attendance also were members of the Learning Disability Partnership Board & Profound Multiple Learning Disabilities, people supported by local providers, Healthwatch, the Carers Information Support Service, City Health Care Partnership, Scrapstore and people who are supported through the Shared Lives Scheme. The council’s portfolio holder for Adult Social Care, Councillor Linda Chambers and the council’s Director of Adult Social Care, Tracy Meyerhoff were also in attendance.

Guests enjoyed a range of singers and entertainers who performed at the event, which took place on Wednesday 18 June.

Learning Disability Week is an opportunity to make sure people hear what life is like for people with a learning disability. The theme this year is “Do you see me?”, which is all about people with a learning disability being seen, heard and valued.

Picnic in the Park provided the perfect opportunity for people and providers to come together, celebrate and have fun.

Councillor Linda Chambers, the portfolio holder for Adult Social Care at Hull City Council, said: “Our Picnic in the Park event for Learning Disability Week was a great day out for the people we support, as well as staff and partners who support them. The council is committed to ensuring people with learning disabilities in Hull feel supported and have opportunities, making our city a healthier and fairer place for everyone.

“We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and I’m looking forward to the next one.”
