Hull City Council has launched digital parking permits, a significant step towards modernising the city’s parking management system.
From today (Wednesday 18 June), residents within controlled parking zones (My Hull) are able to apply for digital permits through the MiPermit app and website, available 24/7. However, paper permits are still available for those who prefer a physical option.
Once approved, the digital permit is automatically linked to the vehicle’s registration number, allowing enforcement officers to instantly verify permits electronically via a handheld device – eliminating the need for a physical permit to display.
The new digital system offers a fast, and convenient, way to manage parking,
The council will now also manage all parking permits – both digital and paper – through the MiPermit system.
This unified approach will enable the council to send timely updates and reminders to residents via email and/or text message, helping ensure they stay informed about their permits and any relevant changes.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “Digital parking permits will make life easier for residents—no more paper applications or worrying about lost permits. You can now apply online anytime, and enforcement is quicker and smoother with automatic checks.
“This change helps Hull become a greener city by cutting down on unnecessary paper waste while keeping parking hassle-free. It’s a simple but important step toward a more efficient, accessible, and environmentally-friendly future.”
To support the launch, the council is hosting a series of drop-in sessions where residents can ask questions and receive guidance on how to apply for a digital permit.
The sessions will take place at the following locations and times:
Avenues Library: 76 Chanterlands Avenue, Hull, HU5 3TS – Thursday 26 June, 2pm until 4pm
Western Library: 262 to 264 Boulevard, Hull, HU3 3ED – Monday 23 June, 1pm until 3pm
Central Library: Albion Street, HU1 3TF – Thursday 3 July, 10am until 12noon
Residents with existing paper permits can continue using them until they expire. When the time comes to renew, they will receive a letter with instructions on how to switch to a digital permit.
In addition to residential permits, the MiPermit system will also support the purchase of daily and annual visitor permits, offering even greater flexibility and convenience.
The payment method for parking permits will remain the same, with card payments still accepted. However, all payments will now be processed through the MiPermit portal. This eliminates the need to visit the libraries to make a payment.
Please note that the council will no longer accept cheque payments.
