Roadworks taking place in Hull

Essential roadworks taking place in Hull are “vital to improve our transport system for better and safer journeys in the future”, says the councillor in charge of the roads.

Critical gas infrastructure repair works have now completed in Lowgate, and other works are coordinated with the relevant organisations undertaking the works across the network to avoid pinch points whenever possible.

Works in Cottingham Road have also been extended due to the poor state of the road, and will now complete on Sunday 27 June. In order to minimise impact to motorists, temporary traffic lights will be installed to control traffic flow and keep queues to a minimum.

Improvement works to cycle lanes in Holderness Road will also be starting from Monday 21 June, with safer measures for cyclists beginning in Southcoates Lane to Summergangs Road.

As part of the mitigation works identified for the council’s road network by Highways England, works will be carried out to install new part-time traffic signals on two stretches of the Hessle Road and Madeley Street roundabout.

This will improve car journeys for motorists using Rawlings Way and Hessle Road as a diversion route for the A63 works.

In order to complete this work Hessle Road will be closed on Sunday 20 June from 10pm-4am to allow the technology to be installed. A signed diversion route will be in place for motorists.

Once completed, these works will offer not only offer significantly improved travel options, but more reliable gas and electricity supplies across the city.

Councillor Dean Kirk, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, highways and flood prevention, said: “Hull’s ambitious project to improve its transport system continues this week as essential major works take place across the city.

“They include works at the A63 and Stoneferry Corridor and also critical utility repairs.

“The works are being undertaken by organisations including Highways England, Northern Gas Networks and Hull City Council, with scheduled works from Northern Powergrid.

“We understand that roadworks can be frustrating for motorists, however these works are essential if we are to improve our transport system for better and safer journeys in the future. We apologies for any inconvenience to drivers in the meantime.”

Motorists are advised to plan their journey before travelling using One.Network, and to keep up-to-date with Stoneferry Corridor works download the Hello Travaux app on the App Store on Google Play.
