A Community Network to shape the future of Hull’s green and open spaces launched in the Guildhall this week.
Hull City Council is delighted to announce the successful launch of the Hull Open Space Community Network. This groundbreaking initiative was designed to foster collaboration, enhance community involvement, and champion the preservation and development of Hull’s cherished green and open spaces.
The Open Space Community Network was created as a dynamic platform connecting community groups, organisations, and passionate individuals who share a common interest in nurturing and enhancing the city’s natural landscapes.
By facilitating collaboration, knowledge sharing, and resource pooling, the Council aim to create a vibrant network that empowers local communities to actively participate in shaping the future of Hull’s open spaces.
The first networking event, which was held on Tuesday 16 April, was well-attended, with participants expressing enthusiasm for the network’s potential impact. Attendees engaged in lively discussions and workshops and committed to ongoing collaboration.
Attendees also heard from key speakers who champion Hull’s open spaces and community engagement, including Hannah Meadway, from Hull CVS, Dr. Africa Gomez from the University of Hull, and Anna Route from Hull Food Partnership.
Andrew Wilson, Streetcare and Open Spaces Strategic Manager, said: “The launch of the Hull Open Space Community Network is a significant step toward preserving our natural heritage.
“By connecting passionate individuals and organisations, we can collectively address environmental challenges and promote biodiversity.”
Jane Winter, Open Space Community Engagement Officer, said: “This initiative reflects our commitment to community engagement and sustainable urban planning.
“We believe that the collective wisdom of our residents and community groups is invaluable. The network provides a space for dialogue, idea exchange, and collaborative problem-solving.

Hull’s Open Space Strategy underscores the Council’s commitment to preserving and enhancing green areas. This network aligns with this strategy, ensuring that community voices are heard.
