The Banksy mural on Scott Street Bridge in Hull has not been demolished, contrary to reports in the media on Monday.
A planning process for the Scott Street Bridge where the Banksy mural is located is under way, as reported last month.
Extensive consultation with all parties is taking place and will form the basis of the planning application, which will be determined at a planning committee on Wednesday 6 March.
Alex Codd, Hull City Council’s city economic development and regeneration manager, said: “Following significant revisions to the scheme, the bridge leaves are proposed for removal and a replacement will be required to be installed.
“Historic England initially objected to the scheme, but has removed this objection subject to the implementation of a number of conditions regarding the removal and timing and details around the replacement bridge leaves.
“The council’s principal conservation officer has also recommended a number of conditions about details of the replacement bridge leaves and timing for its installation.
“We are committed to securing the artwork through specialist removal and storage of the Banksy until it can be relocated adjacent to the original site and in keeping with its intended artistic statement and context.”
The application will be determined at a planning committee on 6 March.
