Hull City Council has made changes to its benefit calculator to take into account the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.
During the pandemic, some residents have experienced a drop in income after being laid off from work, put on part-time hours or being forced take time off to care for a sick member of their household.
The benefit calculator has been adjusted to reflect such implications of the virus and show whether or not people are entitled to receive benefits and which ones they are entitled to claim.
The calculator is free to use and all details entered are anonymous. It has accompanying guide for people affected by the virus.
Users should ensure they have information about savings, income, pensions and existing benefits for themselves and, if appropriate, their partners before they start.
The process should take no more than 10 minutes to complete and users can save their calculations and come back to it later at the same point if they run out of time.
Lisa Buttery, head of customer service at Hull City Council, said: “I would encourage people whose income has been affected by the coronavirus outbreak to use the calculator and see if they are entitled to any support payments to minimise any financial hardship they may be experiencing.”
