New figures show that nearly 5,000 fines have been issued to those caught littering in the city.
In the last 14 months Local Authority Support Ltd have issued a total of 4,766 fines to people carrying out this anti-social behaviour.
And more than half of the fines issued for littering have taken place outside of the city centre.
Figures show that 1,922 fines were issued in St. Andrews and Docklands ward, nearly 800 fines were issued in the Beverley and Newland ward, and almost 400 were issued in the Avenue ward of the city.
These areas include littering hot spots such as Beverley Road, Cottingham Road, Newland Avenue, Spring Bank, Princes Avenue and Hessle Road.
Councillor Anita Harrison, portfolio holder for Streetscene services at Hull City Council, said: “These figures show that we are committed to enforcing against litter and waste-related offences across the entire city.
“Our enforcement officers patrol wards across Hull, however their efforts are more logically focused in the busiest areas of the city. Litter patrols have shown that enforcement activity in areas including the Central ward deliver a success rate of 89 per cent, compared to just 28 per cent in the Drypool ward.
“The mapping is simple. Resources are focused in areas where they will have the biggest impact.
“Keeping our city clean is a collective effort and our ultimate hope is that these fines will deter people now, more than ever from littering, helping to keep our city as tidy as possible.”
Prior to 2020, Hull City Council were issuing just a handful of fines for littering. And since the introduction of Local Authority Ltd, the council has been able to focus its efforts towards supporting the Love Your Street team, a team dedicated to community engagement, organising litter picking groups and building community ownership which are all key parts of tackle littering.
