Council to resurface key city centre junction

Hull City Council has announced that it will resurface a busy city centre junction next month to help improve part of a key route in and out of Hull.

The junction of Ferensway and Anlaby Road has become damaged over the years due to factors such as weathering and significant traffic volumes.

The council is currently procuring a contractor to deliver a scheme of works, with the aim of undertaking these at the end of February, weather permitting.

To help mitigate the impact for motorists and the travelling public, the council is proposing to undertake these on an evening, with a road closure in place.

An exception will be made that allows traffic to turn into Anlaby Road from Ferensway, north bound, but all other movements through the junction will be prohibited during a closure that is anticipated to last three nights.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways, said: “As a council, we have listened to the views of our residents with regards to this junction and are now taking action by investing in a programme of proactive repairs that will significantly enhance the road surface.

“We apologise for the short-term inconvenience that these works will have, but we are confident that drivers and passengers will support the need for them and will welcome the improvements when they are complete.”

The council will announce the dates for this work, once all the necessary permits have been secured.
