The City Learning Partnership supports Hull City Council Leader’s letter to the Prime Minister asking for more support, freedom and flexibility for the city.
Within the letter, Councillor Stephen Brady, Leader of Hull City Council, asks the Prime Minister to urgently grant greater freedom and flexibility to put specific and meaningful restrictions in place locally – particularly with regard to flexibility on schools.
Ged Fitzpatrick, Chair of the City Learning Partnership said: “The City Learning Partnership is committed to keeping schools and education settings open for all children as far as possible.
“Schools have worked tirelessly to keep education settings open for all children since the start of term in September, and have gone to extraordinary lengths to work together, share learning and develop strategies, in conjunction Hull City Council and Public Health.
“It has become increasingly difficult to maintain fully open schools due to significant staff absences. There is now a concern that if children of key workers cannot be prioritised for attendance, there will be a major threat to the infrastructure in the city.
“We would welcome flexibility from government to be able to manage schools locally, based on the local situation, and based on individual schools staffing capacity and home learning provision.
“The Learning Partnership, Local Authority, schools and Multi-Academy Trusts would like to be able to prioritise attendance in schools for vulnerable children and children of key workers, whilst continuing to provide education for all children through a blend of learning in school and through home and on-line learning.”
