The Hull Bus Alliance is encouraging families, groups of friends and young people to travel by bus this summer and save money with the launch of two new discount ticket options.
Stagecoach East Midlands and East Yorkshire Buses will be offering a ‘6 people for £6’ group travel ticket, perfect for days out or for attending events, thanks to funding from the Department for Transport and Hull City Council. The Hull KAT Card will also see a reduction from its current weekly price of £13.50 to £10, offering the freedom of unlimited travel with both operators around the city and other areas, including Wawne, Cottingham, Willerby, Kirk Ella, Anlaby and Hessle, for those 19 and under.
These ticket options are available from Monday 22 July until Sunday 1 September and can be purchased on any of the operators’ services in Hull, with both cash and card payments accepted.
The introduction of more discounted fares forms part of the alliance’s bus service improvement plan (BSIP) for 2024/2025, with the aim of enhancing bus travel within the city and encouraging passenger growth.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways at Hull City Council, said: “Working with Stagecoach East Midlands and East Yorkshire Buses, the council is keen to provide people with more choice when it comes to making travel decisions.
“These brilliant fare options mean that families or groups of friends can get unlimited travel, from £1 per person, to go out and enjoy activities and events across the city and that young people can enjoy freedom from mum and dad for less than £1.50 per day.
“As a council, residents have told us how important it is to be able to get around more easily in the city and improve local neighbourhoods – something the city’s community plan is aiming to do. These summer promotions will help us do just that, as well as build a healthier and fairer Hull and support the city’s response to the climate emergency – all of which have been identified as important priorities through listening to feedback from our residents and our communities.”
