The Department for Education has appointed a commissioner for children’s social care and SEND provision within the city.
This follows a full inspection of Children, Young People and Family Services by Ofsted in January 2019 and a two-day monitoring visit in January 2020.
Paul Moffat is the commissioner appointed and he will report to the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children and Families. He will identify ongoing improvement requirements and recommend support needed to deliver improvements.
Councillor Stephen Brady, leader of Hull City Council, said: “In line with the next steps identified in February following the Ofsted monitoring visit report, we expected the appointment of a Department for Education Commissioner and welcome this confirmation.
“Since the report, we have appointed a new Director of Children’s Services, Niki Clemo, who is now in post and already working very closely with the appointed commissioner Paul Moffat and our strengthened leadership team to improve our provision.
“We are fully committed to delivering the right improvements in our children’s services, and having this expertise, knowledge and guidance from the DfE will significantly assist us to achieve this.
“Ultimately, we want a good service that meets the needs of children and their families, and improves the experiences and outcomes of vulnerable children in the city.”
