Hull schools are finishing the difficult year with plenty of festive fun for pupils.
Festive events have been adapted, so that children can still enjoy the excitement and magic of Christmas.
Across the city, schools have been holding socially distanced Carol services on school playgrounds, nativities performed and videoed for parents, Christmas parties within their bubbles, delivering advent acts of kindness and sending care home residents Christmas messages to hang from their Christmas trees.
Festive activities have included:
- Southcoates Primary recorded each class performing a Christmas Carol to broadcast on their YouTube channel.
- Sirius West Academy ran an Advent acts of kindness theme, in which pupils and staff nominated others for acts of kindness. They have also created a Christmas music video which will be shown to pupils on the last day of term.
- Kingswood Parks Primary held a virtual Advent assembly, led by Reverend Ben.
- The Green Way Academy designed and wrote on Christmas baubles to send to Ada Holmes Residential Retirement Community for residents to hang from their Christmas trees. They also shared virtually their concert with the residents.

- Kingswood Academy held a virtual Christmas House Talent Show, which has been recorded and will be shown to all students on their last day.
- Hull Collaborative Academy Trust delivered an alternative Advent calendar for pupils, with Christmas messages from a range of famous faces, from Hull boxer Tommy Coyle and Hull City’s Nick Barnby, to TV presenter Nick Knowles and children’s author David Walliams!
- Fredrick Holmes School participated in the ‘We Made This’ Hull Christmas Tree Trail. Classes decorated wooden trees under the theme of reduce, reuse, recycle. Trees were decorated using old toys, rubbish, plastic bottles, old CDs, odds and ends of jigsaw puzzles and old kitchen utensils. The trees are displayed on the gate and fence to the school.

- Sidmouth Primary School children designed and wrote Christmas cards and messages for the elderly people in the community for a project run by Age UK.
- Ganton School have created a kindness advent calendar – with children completing an act of kindness each day

- At Broadacre Primary, Father Christmas visited pupils in the playground, for a socially distance greeting.
- Clifton Primary School held Christmas parties for classes within their own bubbles.

Councillor Peter Clark, Portfolio Holder for learning, skills and safeguarding children said: “School staff and pupils have worked tremendously hard this year in difficult circumstances, and I’d like to express my thanks to schools, parents and pupils. I’m pleased to see all of the festive activities that children have been able to take part in, and it’s a nice positive end to the last week of term.”
