A team manager at Leaving Care Hull has been nominated for a Lifetime Achiever Award at the National Leaving Care Benchmarking Forum’s (NLCBF) Personal Advisor Celebration Awards, held on Thursday 13 November in Birmingham.
Lisa Hunter, from Bransholme, has worked in Hull all her life. She joined Hull City Council in 1989 and 10 years later she joined the then-brand-new Leaving Care Hull team.
Lisa said: “I live and breathe leaving care. It is in my blood and the people I work alongside are just amazing. Policies and legislation have certainly evolved over the years and there is a lot more recognition and support for care leavers now.
“It is amazing to be nominated for this award, especially because the recognition comes from the NLCBF. There are so many other dedicated and passionate people that deserve recognition for the work they do championing for care leavers to have more rights and better services. It takes real dedication as it can be challenging, exhausting and exhilarating all at the same time.”
The Personal Advisor Celebration Awards bring together and celebrates committed individuals who have made a lasting impact on the lives of care-experienced young people across the UK.
The awards are hosted by the NLCBF, a forum of more than 125 local authority leaving care teams, working together to share good practice and improve services and support for care experienced young people.
Councillor Linda Tock, the portfolio holder for Children’s Services at Hull City Council, said: “Hull City Council is thrilled to learn of Lisa’s Lifetime Achiever nomination. The recognition is testament to her dedication and compassion for her work at Leaving Care Hull.
“Lisa has played a key role in shaping the support available to young people leaving care in Hull, ensuring they are given the opportunities and encouragement they deserve.
“We are immensely proud of Lisa and the difference she continues to make to the lives of care-experienced young people across our city.”
