Hull City Council statement in response to traffic issues across the city:
“Hull is in the midst of a huge transformation to its transport system, with major works taking place across the city, including the A63, Stoneferry Corridor and utility repairs.
“The current works are being undertaken by a number of organisations in addition to Hull City Council, including Highways England, Northern Gas Network and Northern Powergrid, and include emergency repairs. These are works which the Council has to permit and are essential to maintaining crucial electricity and gas supplies to many residents and businesses across the city.
“The local authority did undertake the majority of our multi-million pound road improvement schemes during the lockdown period, in order to minimise the impact on traffic once the lockdown restrictions began to ease. One of these schemes, involving work to Diadem roundabout to Ganstead roundabout in Holderness Road, will complete at the end of this week.
The Council will also be suspending traffic management in Woodhall Street from tomorrow, and we are hopeful this will ease traffic in the east of the city.
“We do understand the frustrations about the impact of these works and apologise for the inconvenience they are causing. Whilst we appreciate it is very difficult, motorists are asked to stagger journey times if they can, allow longer for travel across the city and bear with us as these essential works take place to ensure public safety and improve Hull’s roads in the long-term.”
