Hull City Council is reminding residents to check their bin collection days over the festive period.
Because of the bank holidays over Christmas and New Year, there will be changes to the usual collection schedule.
Hull residents can check their collection days at any time via the online bin collection day checker or on the 2022-23 calendars included in the recycling packs recently sent to every household in the city.
Councillor Julia Conner, Portfolio Holder for Waste Management, said: “Bin collections over Christmas and New Year are slightly different, so to ensure bins are emptied, everyone should check their calendars to make sure they put their bins out on the right days.”
The changes to the collection schedule are as follows:
Usual collection date | Revised collection date |
Tuesday 27 December (bank holiday) | Wednesday 28 December |
Wednesday 28 December | Thursday 29 December |
Thursday 29 December | Friday 30 December |
Friday 30 December | Tuesday 3 January |
Tuesday 3 January | Wednesday 4 January |
Wednesday 4 January | Thursday 5 January |
Thursday 5 January | Friday 6 January |
Friday 6 January | Saturday 7 January |
The council is also encouraging people to remember to recycle properly over the festive period, a time when household waste increases by about a third.
Cllr Conner said: “With all the extra packaging from presents, cards, wrapping paper and food, we all produce a lot more household waste over the festive period.
“Most of this can be recycled, so this Christmas we are asking everyone to take extra care to make sure their waste goes in the right bin.”

Any excess waste can be taken to one of the city’s three household waste and recycling centres, where many unwanted items can also be donated for sale in Reuse shops.
Hull’s household waste and recycling centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, and will be open from 10am to 4pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
At all other times, the centres are open from 10am to 5pm, seven days a week.
