Hull City Council’s parking enforcement officers will be equipped with body worn cameras following a successful trial which demonstrated the benefits of the technology.
From Monday 28 September, all of the council’s Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs) will begin using body cameras as part of their daily duties.
Following several incidents of aggressive behaviour towards the CEOs, a five-month trial was carried out between June and November 2025, during which two cameras were used by the team.
During the trial, no incidents of aggressive behaviour towards the CEOs were recorded while the cameras were in use, suggesting the technology acted as an effective deterrent.
Since the trial concluded the council have been working to configure the cameras, agree policies, and train staff.
By equipping CEOs with body worn cameras, the council aims to provide an additional layer of protection for officers, helping to create a safer working environment.
The cameras will also efficiently resolve disputes and complaints from the public, as the footage recorded will offer an impartial record of incidents, when needed.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “The success of the trial gave us the confidence to roll this technology out across the whole team.
“Over the five-month trial period, no incidents were recorded while the cameras were in use, highlighting the positive impact they can have.
“However, these body worn cameras will not only help protect our officers, but members of the public too, ensuring any disputes are resolved quickly and fairly.
“We are committed to supporting our staff and giving them the tools they need to work safely, and the trial clearly demonstrated the value these cameras can bring to our day-to-day operations.”
All footage captured will be handled in accordance with GDPR regulations. It will only be reviewed in the event of a complaint or dispute involving a CEO or a member of the public and may be used as evidence in legal proceedings, if necessary.
