Love Your Neighbourhood: Avenues area next in line for a tidy-up

Hull City Council’s Love Your Neighbourhood project will be arriving in the Avenues area next week.

As part of the citywide initiative, several streets within West Hull’s Avenues ward will undergo a comprehensive tidy-up between Monday 17 March and Friday 28 March, leaving streets transformed and residents with an enhanced sense of pride in their community.

The streets that will be included are Perth Street, Hardwick Street, Wharncliffe Street, Newstead Street, and Selkirk Street.

Over the two-week period, the team will address issues such as weeds and litter, as well as carrying out general grounds maintenance, gully cleaning and street cleaning works.

It is hoped that these efforts will enhance the look and feel of the neighbourhood.

Councillor Charles Quinn, cabinet portfolio holder for environment, said: “These streets have been identified as areas that would benefit from our additional resources, so we are thrilled to bring the Love Your Neighbourhood project back to the Avenues.

“Our dedicated team is eager to tackle the issues highlighted and transform this neighbourhood into a cleaner and more welcoming place for residents to live and work.

“Last year, the team completed a successful clean-up in the Avenues, which was greatly appreciated by residents. Our hope is that everyone in the area will continue to reap the benefits of this wonderful project and feel an enhanced sense of pride in their community.”

The council also wants to encourage residents to get involved with the project by helping with litter picking, and the removal of graffiti.

To help residents get involved, the Love Your Street team can loan: adult and child sized litter pickers; hi-vis vests; graffiti removal kits; litter collection sacks; and gloves.

Any waste that cannot go in household bins will be collected by the team.

Cllr Quinn, added: “As well as caring for the environment, this project aims to bring the community together by helping and encouraging residents to get involved too.

“By getting involved with the tidy-up residents can help make a visible difference, connect with neighbours, and make an impactful change in the place they live.”

Love Your Neighbourhood is a citywide tidy-up programme designed to tackle small areas one at a time.

The team tidy each area over a two-week period, after which residents should see a noticeable difference in the look and feel of their neighbourhood.
