Trinity Market Cycle Hub: Continuing to make cycles and cyclists safe in Hull

Hull City Council and local charity, R-evolution, are celebrating the continued growth of the Trinity Market Cycle Hub, which saw an increase in repairs, donations, parking and public engagement in 2024/25.

Last year, the number of people using the hub’s free, secure indoor cycle parking increased to 4,830, up 23% on 2023/24 when 3,905 people used the facility.

The number of cycles maintained, including free, goodwill repairs, increased 25% to 1,959 from 1,555 and interactions with members of the public rose 14%, from 4,754 to 5,464.

R-evolution also accepted almost double the number of donations of cycles, from 41 to 80, which have been fully refurbished by the charity’s trained mechanics for re-sale at affordable prices.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways at Hull City Council, said: “As a local authority, we are committed to supporting our residents to choose more active and sustainable forms of travel, such as cycling, as part of our approach to creating a healthier and fairer Hull, building safe and welcoming neighbourhoods and responding to the climate emergency.

“This year’s results at the Trinity Market Cycle Hub demonstrate strong engagement with people and communities across the city and highlight the increasing demand for cycling services in Hull.

“We’d like to thank our partners at R-evolution for the great work they have done, and we look forward to working closely with them to continue developing the hub’s offer in the year ahead.”

Fergal McCullough, chief executive of R-evolution, said: “We have surpassed a number of targets in key areas, particularly in relation to cycle repairs and parking, which illustrates the essential role we play in promoting cycling as an accessible mode of transport.

“For 2025/26, our aim is to increase the number of affordable cycles sold and invest in a layout adjustment at the hub to relocate our workshop and move the cycle parking to the current repair space to enhance the security of customers’ cycles.

“Additionally, we are exploring potential investments in improve cycle security measures as well as looking into organising a consignment agreement with a retail store to up our offering of much-needed cycling equipment, such as rechargeable lights, chain oil and other key things to help customers keep their cycles working safely at home.”
