Council seeks members for new culture boards

Hull City Council is appealing for expressions of interest to join two new cultural boards.

The Hull Culture and Heritage Partnership Board and Hull Music board will soon be established to drive forward a new strategy and plan recently launched in the city.

The Culture and Heritage Partnership Board will be responsible for the oversight of the delivery of the new Culture and Heritage Strategy. It will provide expert advice on the strategy’s development, including the city’s five-year music plan, plus international and national partnerships including the annual international Cultural Tides conference.

Newly recruited members to this board will need to demonstrate knowledge and experience of the diversity of the culture & heritage sector in Hull, with knowledge of the sector across the region and internationally. They will need to represent the city in their specialist field and represent the city in meetings and at events.

Alongside this board, a new Hull Music Board will also be created, driving the city’s five-year Music Plan and ambitions to become a future UNESCO Creative City for Music.

The board will be responsible for supervising the delivery of the Music Plan, feeding into the Culture & Heritage Partnership Board.

Members of the music board must have an understanding of the music sector in Hull and the wider region. They need to be able to represent the city across all music genres as well as attending local, regional and national meetings. Experience in public speaking and networking is also necessary.

Councillor Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure, said: “By establishing these boards we commit to driving forward Hull’s reputation as one of the world’s most progressive cities in community-led culture and heritage.

“Having local experts involved in the delivery of both the culture strategy and music plan will elevate our profile as a global leader, recognised as a forward-thinking destination and place to make and experience quality work and music.

“I already know these boards will attract the highest calibre of specialists who feel as passionately as we do about the future of Hull’s culture.”
