Have your say on Hull’s Local Heritage List

Hull City Council is seeking further views from residents, businesses and property owners on amended proposals as part of the Hull Local Heritage List.

The council’s cabinet approved a second round of public consultation on the introduction of an Article 4 Direction for the management of the Hull Local Heritage List.

This was based on previous public feedback and an Article 4 Direction would include a requirement for planning permission for demolition or change of use of locally listed buildings, as well as external alterations such as cladding, shutters and replacement windows.

It also features specific building types such as the alteration or removal a public house façade and shop fronts.

The Hull Local Heritage List identifies buildings and archaeological sites across the city which contribute towards Hull’s unique archaeological and historical heritage.

Around 100 properties citywide, including The Crown on Marfleet Lane, Zetland Arms on Portobello Street and the former Cottage Baths on Albert Avenue, would be affected by the Article 4 Direction and the council would like public feedback on the proposals.

The council is also seeking views on proposed additions to the List. These are the former Westminster Bank in Witham, St Anthony and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Beverley Road and the Rose Bowl in Queens Gardens.

Cllr Paul Drake-Davis, portfolio holder for regeneration and housing at the council, said: “We know from the Community Plan that residents wished to see the preservation of buildings and the city’s heritage.

“The council remains committed to ensuring that the Hull Local Heritage List is relevant and effective in managing the future of Hull’s built and archaeological heritage.

“Hull’s heritage is something that the council and residents are particularly proud of – and rightly so.”

Targeted letter drops will be aimed at stakeholders ahead of the consultation period which begins on Saturday 15 February and runs until Monday 31 March.

A public drop-in session will be held in The Guildhall on Monday 24 February from 11am to 1.30pm, where visitors will be asked to report to the main reception on arrival.

An online survey can be filled in here and returned, along with other feedback, via email to dev.control@hullcc.gov.uk, via post to The Guildhall, Alfred Gelder Street, Hull, HU1 2AA, or at the in person at the consultation session.
