Hull City Council is preparing to begin reconstruction and resurfacing works across a section of Derringham Street next month.
The scheme will address sections of failed carriageway and deteriorated surface from the Morton Street to Spring Bank junction. Under the council’s highways capital programme, the repairs will ensure a safer skid-resistant surface.
The work will take place from Monday 24 February to Wednesday 26 March with construction occurring across three phases to minimize disruption. Sections of the road will be fully closed during each phase:
- Mon 24 Feb – Sun 2 Mar: Spring Bank junction to the northern gate of Jacksons Bakery
- Mon 3 Mar – Wed 26 Mar: Junction at Morton Street
- Thur 13 Mar – Wed 26 Mar: Northern gate of Jacksons Bakery to the Morton Street junction
During the construction period, Derringham Street will be closed to traffic, with diversions in place, including an arrangement for Jackson Bakery’s HGV movements.
During phases one and two, Stanley Street will be temporarily converted into a two-way traffic arrangement, managed by a three-way traffic light system at the Spring Bank junction.
Resident access disruption will be kept to a minimum and a full diversion route for non-residents will be in place utilising Spring Bank, Park Street and Anlaby Road.
Residents and businesses will receive a letter informing them of their arrangements.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways at Hull City Council, said: “This section of the carriageway is in poor condition, so I am happy to hear that the reconstruction and resurfacing work will be taking place.
“Not only does this work help us futureproof our road network, but it also helps keep the road safe for all users.
“We understand that roadworks can be inconvenient and we thank residents and motorists for their patience and understanding whilst we carry out these works.”
The scheme will be carried out by PBS Construction (North East) Limited on behalf of the council.
