This is how one of Hull’s most popular shopping streets could look under new plans.
Whitefriargate in the city’s Old Town is Hull City Council’s next major regeneration project.
A working group made up of the local authority, the city’s private businesses, stakeholders and partners is being set up to revitalise this key pedestrian route between Hull’s Old Town and city centre.

The group is planning to bid for millions of pounds from the Government‘s Future High Street Fund to kick-start the project.

Shoppers need only look up at the beautiful first-floor architecture to recognise Whitefriargate’s significance as an area of historical importance – with 30 Grade II listed buildings and three Grade II* listed buildings.
A successful funding bid would allow ground-floor shop frontage to match the stylish exteriors of the upper floors.
It is hoped a diverse mix of outlets will be attracted to a revamped Whitefriargate.
The working group is aiming to attract a diverse mix of food and drink, boutique, commercial and leisure outlets to make the most of this unique architecture.
The Old Town has already benefitted from £6.2 million of Hull City Council and Humber LEP funding used to revitalise the area, including the popular Trinity Market.
Councillor Daren Hale, deputy leader of Hull City Council, said: “We are determined to revitalise this historically important street, which is a key route between the Old Town and the city centre.
“Anyone who walks down Whitefriargate only has to look up to see its potential. A successful bid for this Government funding would help us to ensure this potential is met.
“You only have to look at other areas of Hull, such as Trinity Market, to see how the city’s independent businesses are thriving, and we see this as the future for Whitefriargate too.”
