Two more conservation areas updated

Two conservation areas in Hull have adopted new character appraisals and management plans, providing refreshed guidelines for future planning applications.

Both Ella Street and The Broadway conservation areas have been updated, with the former also welcoming boundary amendments.

The changes are the result of resurveys undertaken in both areas during which residents, visitors and property owners were invited to have their say.

The reviews ensure that the designated boundaries retain only areas of special interest and removes properties which do not benefit from the additional planning controls of being within a conservation area.

This also reaffirms the council’s commitment to ensuring all of Hull’s 26 conservation areas are preserved with up to date management plans, shaping new development within them.

For Ella Street Conservation Area, an Article 4 direction for rooflights will be adopted at a later date and a separate notification will be published.

Cllr Paul Drake-Davis, portfolio holder for economic renewal, housing and organisational development at Hull City Council, said: “It is great news that two more of our city’s conservation areas have been updated.

“The council is rightly proud of their heritage and each resurvey ensures that they are preserved for the long-term.

“The council would like to thank those who contributed to and provided feedback on the proposals to help to shape the updated plans.”

Updated information is being distributed to properties within both areas, which can also be viewed online at Conservation areas | Hull.
