Love Your Neighbourhood: Ings and Derringham areas receive tidy-up treatment

Ings and Derringham are the latest areas to be supported by Hull City Council’s Love Your Neighbourhood project.

Streets across the Ings and Derringham areas are now basking in the glow of a much-needed makeover, thanks to Hull City Council’s ambitious Love Your Neighbourhood initiative.

As part of the citywide project, several streets within both areas underwent a comprehensive tidy-up, between Monday 10 June and Friday 5 July, leaving the streets transformed and residents with a renewed sense of pride in their community.

During this period, the team carried out a range of clear-up tasks, including grass verge edging, grounds maintenance, and street cleaning.

The streets included were Balham Avenue, Epping Close, Walworth Close, Brockley Close, Cricklewood Walk, Neasden Close, Catford Close, Bristol Road, Ilford Road, Worcester Road, Danube Road, Coventry Road, Hove Road, Dayton Road, Flaxton Road, and Strensall Road.

Residents have praised the work of the team and the difference they have seen in the look and feel of their neighbourhoods.

Councillor Charles Quinn, portfolio holder for environment, said: “It’s been great to see such a difference being made in the Ings and Derringham areas over the past month.

“During my on-site visits, I saw many local residents telling the team how delighted they were with the work being carried out. Love your Neighbourhood really brings local communities together.”

The council are also encouraging residents to get involved with the project by helping with litter picking, and the removal of graffiti.

To help residents get involved, the Love Your Street team can loan: adult and child sized litter pickers; hi-viz vests; graffiti removal kits; litter collection sacks; and gloves.

The team can also dispose of the litter collected, or it can be disposed of at home using black (general waste), blue (clean recyclables), and brown bins (garden waste).

Cllr Quinn, added: “As well as caring for the environment, this project is about getting residents involved and bringing communities together while their streets are given a real makeover.

“By getting involved residents can help make a visible difference, connect with their neighbours, and leave an ongoing legacy in the area they live.”

Love Your Neighbourhood is the council’s new tidy-up programme, which will tackle small areas of the city one at a time.

The team tidy each area over a two-week period, after which residents should see a noticeable difference in the look and feel of their neighbourhood.

The Love Your Neighbourhood team will continue its journey across Hull, tackling one area after another.
