Families in Hull can learn more about the history of The Avenues Adult Education Centre as the building celebrates its 135th anniversary this weekend.
The listed Victorian building on Park Avenue will be open to visitors this Saturday, 15 July.
To mark the occasion, guided tours showcasing the building, which still boasts many of its original features, will be held throughout the day.
Guides will explain when and why the centre was built, as well as what it has been used for in the past.
There will also be workshops such as crafting, pottery and learning to write in Victorian English style.
The Avenues Adult Education Centre is currently home to Hull Training and Adult Education team (HTAE), part of Hull City Council.
The HTAE team has made a commemorative totem pole which will be revealed on the day.
Cllr Linda Tock, the council’s portfolio holder for Hull Training, said: “The Avenues Adult Education Centre has played an important role in education in Hull for well over a century.
“It remains part of it today and Saturday is a great opportunity for the people in the city to learn more about what it does now and what it was used for in the past.”
The 135th anniversary celebrations will take place from 10am to 2pm on Saturday 15July.
