Hull City Council is to issue £150 fixed penalty notices to individuals caught littering outside Hull Royal Infirmary.
Starting tomorrow (Wednesday 12 November) the council’s enforcement contractor, LA Support Limited, will be issuing £150 fixed penalty notices to those found to be littering around the perimeter of Hull Royal Infirmary – including those dropping cigarette butts.
The enforcement aims to support public health and cleanliness around the hospital, a location that sees high footfall and deserves to be clean, safe, and welcoming for patients, staff, and visitors.
To avoid being fined, the council urges everyone visiting or working at the hospital to dispose of litter responsibly, to always use bins provided by the NHS and council in the area and if no bins are available to take litter home.
Councillor Charles Quinn, portfolio holder for environment, said: “Littering outside the hospital is not only unsightly but deeply disrespectful to those receiving care and the dedicated staff working tirelessly to provide it.
“By introducing fines, we’re making it clear that this behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
“Our goal is to create a clean and safe environment around Hull Royal Infirmary – one that staff and visitors can feel proud of and welcome in.”

In partnership with Humberside Police and NHS, enforcement officers from LA Support Limited will be actively patrolling the hospital perimeter, as well as other priority zones across the city, issuing on-the-spot fines to anyone found littering.
This initiative forms a new Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) to combat anti-social behaviour outside Hull Royal Infirmary.
