Students across the city have been celebrating their A-level results today.
Councillor Shane McMurray, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services said: “Well done to everyone for completing their courses in these strange times. If you got the grades you wanted a massive well done. If you didn’t then don’t worry; life is full of challenges and we grow by facing them head on. When I first left school I had one GCSE and managed to go back later and ended up with a degree and post graduate qualifications.
“Whatever the outcome your results are yours but should be shared with friends and family. Take stock and be the best you can be at wherever you find yourself. Best of luck to all our students and don’t stop until you get to the moon!”
Director of Sixth Form at St. Mary’s, Leigh Haworth was delighted with the outstanding success at St Mary’s Sixth Form College today, she said: “ I am so proud of the achievements of our Year 13 cohort. In spite of the unprecedented difficulties they have faced this year, they have overcome the adversity to achieve a truly fantastic set of outcomes with a 100% pass rate and 120 A* grades. This is testament to the hard work and resilience of our students, but also our amazing staff body, who have gone above and beyond in the support of our students.”
This year A-level results, across the country, have been teacher assessed due to the pandemic.
Instead of exams, the grades are based on teacher assessments from mock exams, coursework, tests and essays.
Wyke College Principal, Paul Britton said: “I couldn’t be prouder of the achievements of our students. They really have shown remarkable resilience and determination over the last two years and fully deserve these exceptional results. No other year group has faced the challenge of working remotely, accessing the technology they need and dealing with the fear and isolation caused by the pandemic. We can be very confident that this year group will go on to achieve great things, they have already shown that nothing will stand in their way.”
