Work to transform paving in the Fruit Market will begin on Monday 21 June.
As part of the ongoing regeneration of the Fruit Market, a number of improvements will take place so that it is in keeping with the rest of the area’s public realm transformation.
The work will take place between Blackfriargate and Queen Street and will include the full reconstruction and resurfacing in both Humber Street and Queen Street, to create a shared pedestrian and cyclist path. The footpaths on both sides of Queen Street will also be resurfaced with Kellen paving, to match the materials used in the city centre’s public realm.
The work will also include a change of priorities at the Queen Street traffic lights to ease traffic flow onto the A63 Castle Street. A zebra crossing will also be installed in Humber Street located outside of the new Arco headquarters.
Councillor Dean Kirk, Portfolio Holder for Highways at Hull City Council said: “The Fruit Market is a vibrant, contemporary part of the city, and these works which are taking place near the flood barrier, will not only complement the new multi-storey car park and Arco site, but also link the heart of the city centre’s public realm with its fantastic waterfront.
“These works are necessary, however the work will be paused during Humber Street Sesh and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
Access will be maintained through Queen Street and access into Blackfriargate will be via Liberty Lane and High Street.
The work is expected to take three months to complete, and is scheduled to reopen in the autumn.
