A new exhibition celebrating over 100 years of the Polish community in Hull has opened at the Streetlife Museum.
Cześć Hull, To My!/Hi Hull, It’s Us! explores Polish traditions, food, dress, and lifestyle that enrich Hull’s cultural landscape and highlights some of the local legends with Polish heritage.
Hull Museums have worked with pupils from The Irena Sendler Polish School, and St Mary’s Polish School, as well as a Consulate of the Republic of Poland, in Beverley, and its Branch for Scientific and Educational Cooperation, in Hull (on the University campus), University of Hull students and the local Polish community.
Joanna Radecka, headteacher at Irena Sendler Polish School said: “The local Polish community feels honoured to be acknowledged and sees this exhibition as a great opportunity to share our culture and efforts with the residents of Hull”.
Community curator of social history, Frances Hodson, added: “It has been a privilege to work with such an enthusiastic, amazing community with a rich culture, both here in Hull and in Poland, and share it with all our audiences at Hull Museums”.
The free exhibition will be presented in both English and Polish and will be on display at the Streetlife Museum until Sunday 29 June.
The Streetlife Museum is open 10am to 4.30pm, Monday to Saturday, and 11am to 4pm on Sundays. Find out more and plan your visit at www.StreetlifeMuseum.co.uk.
