From 11-22 November, the Love Your Neighbourhood team will be turning their focus to tackling leaf clearance and dog fouling, issues regularly raised with the council.
As autumn leaves blanket our streets, the Love Your Neighbourhood team will be working diligently over the next two weeks to ensure that footpaths and public spaces across Hull remain clear and safe for all residents.
In addition to leaf clearance, the team will also tackle the increasing incidents of dog fouling, often seen at this time of year when the clocks change. The team’s focus will be on monitoring ‘hotspot’ areas reported by local residents such as Bean Street, Welbeck Street, Blenheim Street, Thoresby Street, Hornsea railway line near Sutton Park, and Ampleforth Grove.
As part of this work, the Love Your Neighbourhood team will be putting up ‘do it for your dog’ and ‘we’re watching you’ posters, to remined dog owners to pick up after their animals. The team will also be carrying out letter-drops and street stencilling.
Further, the council’s enforcement contractor, LA Support Limited, will continue to issue fines to dog owners who allow their pets to foul on public land.
Councillor Charles Quinn, portfolio holder for environment, said: “We are committed to maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for all our residents. By focusing on leaf clearance and dog fouling, we aim to enhance the look and feel of our neighbourhoods.”
The council invites all residents to participate in these efforts by helping with leaf clearance and taking responsibility for their pets.
To support residents who wish to help with the leaf clearance activities, the Love Your Street team can loan hi-viz vests and gloves and will coordinate collections where residents can’t use their brown bins.
Adult and child sized litter pickers and litter collection sacks are available all year round to support voluntary litter picking initiatives.

Cllr Quinn added: “It is our collective responsibility, as a city, to protect the environment and to make sure our communities are safe and welcoming. Therefore, I encourage everyone to do their part by disposing of leaves and cleaning up after their pets.
“By working together, we can significantly improve our city’s appearance, as well as preserve the environment for future generations to come.”
