Grants are available for children and young people in Hull to help them progress in their education.
There are four types of grants available:
- Hull Education Foundation – this grant aims to help young people prepare to enter a profession, trade, occupation or service up to the age of 25 years old. It can be used for secondary or higher education courses or a training or employment project. The grant can help pay for outfits, clothing, tools, instruments and books or other items which will help a young person pursue their education or profession. Applications should be aged 13 to 25, are attending or have attended a Hull school, and parents should live in Hull.
- The Leon Salingar Award – this grant is to assist students starting a music course at the university or recognised music college up to the age of 25 years old. Applicants must live in Hull and attend or have attended a Hull school, and applicants must be entering the first year of a music course at university or a music college.
- Alderman Sydney Smith Prize Trust Fund – this grant is for schools or other educational and training providers to apply for pupils aged 11 to 18 who deserve assistance due to their effort and achievement under difficult circumstances.
- Hull Youth Trust – this award is to support young people up to the age of 25 to travel aboard to support their personal development. Applications should e from individual, or groups of young people up to the age of 25 wishing to advance their education through travelling abroad and looking to arrange reciprocal arrangements.
Councillor Shane McMurray, Portfolio Holder for children’s services said: “We want to be able to help build aspirations in our children and young people, and these grants allow them to pursue their passions by removing any financial barriers.
“We know there is a large pool of untapped talent in our city, and we will do all we can to support people to execute their ideas and talents. This way we all benefit from success.”
