Hull Women’s Week, which starts today, International Women’s Day, is highlighting the work of women working across various communities and sectors in Hull.
Throughout Hull Women’s Week, the Hull Youth Enterprise Service at Hull City Council will be promoting young female entrepreneurs such as Cloie Hockney of Cloie Couture, Becca Pettman of Grays Boutiques, Katie Norman of Labrascals, Millie Notarantonio of Millie Rose, Lucy Musgrave of Pure Delicious, Beth Shepherdson of Rose’s Closet, Leah of Amethyst Cleaning, the Cook Collective, Doozie do Dyes, Emily Campbell of Hair By Emily, Charlene Genter of Resin Randoms and, young entrepreneurs of the year 2021, Nicole and Alex of Blush Cleaning.

The work and achievements of these fantastic young women will be celebrated across social media using the hashtag #ChooseToChallenge
Claire Young, entrepreneur and former BBC Apprentice contestant, said: “I cannot see a better way to celebrate International Women’s Day and Hull Women’s Week than to celebrate young female entrepreneurs in Hull who are all ambassadors for the city.
“In the many years I have worked with young people in Hull I have come across some brilliant young businesswomen. It is great that they have Hull City Council and the John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank to support them, and now an entrepreneur in residence in Judith Meza”
Hull Women’s Week has been organised by Hull Libraries. It runs from Monday 8 March until Saturday 13 March.
The programme features interviews with a host of inspiring local women including Hull MPs Emma Hardy and Dame Diana Johnson, community activist Karen Okra, author Louise Beech and managing director at Hull Trains, Louise Cheeseman.
Judith Meza, youth enterprise champion at Hull City Council, said: “During Hull Women’s Week, I am pleased that the John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank along with the Council’s Youth Enterprise and Micro Biz Team will be promoting a number of young female entrepreneurs who have just gone about establishing and running their businesses within their communities, as they are an inspiration.”
Sue Cade, from In the Right Order, said: “As a businesswoman myself in Devon, I am delighted to be mentoring two great young business women, Nicole and Alex of Blush Cleaning.
“I think Hull Women’s Week is a great opportunity to promote enterprising young women, as many people forget that some are not only running their own businesses, they are also bringing up children and running a home.
“It’s fantastic that Hull City Council and Hull Culture and Leisure have done so much to celebrate women in Hull.”
