Council appoints local construction company to deliver key road improvements

Hull City Council has appointed PBS Construction Limited, a family-owned, Hull-based company, to deliver road improvements on Cottingham Road, Hall Road and Endike Lane.

As key transport routes in west Hull, these works will deliver vital carriageway repairs to ensure they remain safe and reliable for all users.

To minimise disruption for local residents and businesses, the scheme will be delivered in phases, with full closures kept to a minimum.

The first phase will begin on Endike Lane, with carriageway resurfacing works between Keswick Gardens and Greenwood Avenue commencing from Monday 12 January to Friday 23 January. Only two full road closures are planned during this period, taking place on Tuesday 13 January and Friday 23 January.

During the road closures, a diversion route will be in place via Hall Road, Inglemire Lane, Hull Road and New Village Road, depending on the direction of travel.

Outside of the road closures, a heavy-duty steel board will be used to protect the newly laid concrete whilst it hardens, maintaining traffic flow.

This will ensure a smooth, even surface with improved anti-skid and refreshed road markings, enhancing safety for all road users.

The existing road surface on Endike lane requires improvement to maintain safety.

Following this, work to improve the Cottingham Road and Hall Road roundabout will commence on Monday 2 February, with an expected completion date of Friday 13 February

This section of the scheme will be delivered in two phases, maintaining traffic flow between Hall Road and Fairfax Avenue with temporary signals.

Throughout the durations of these works, access to Hotham Road North and Cottingham Road on both sides of the roundabout will be closed.

Local residents and businesses will be notified in advance of the works starting, and information boards will be in place at each location.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “This investment will make a real difference for residents who rely on Cottingham Road, Hall Road and Endike Lane every day.

“By resurfacing these busy routes and improving pedestrian facilities, we are tackling wear and tear before it becomes a bigger problem, reducing the risk of accidents and making journeys smoother and safer for everyone.

“We recognise that roadworks can be inconvenient, especially on key routes, but we have carefully planned these works to keep distruption to a minimum.

“We thank local residents and businesses in advance for their patience as we work to support daily travel, protect vulnerable road users and keep our city moving.”

Glenn Smurthwaite, managing director of PBS Construction Limited, said: “With being a local company and employer we are proud to carry out these high profile works in our own city and look forward to working in partnership with Hull City Council.”

Please be aware that the dates for this scheme are weather dependent and subject to change.
