Albertine Sarges will perform this weekend

Live music returns to Hull Libraries

In collaboration with Get It Loud In Libraries, musician Albertine Sarges will visit Hull Central Library this Sunday (9 November) for a matinee performance.

Sarges will play this intimate gig with a heady blend of indie rock, blues and art pop from her current album ‘Girl Missing’.

‘Girl Missing’ is Sarges’ highly anticipated follow-up to her acclaimed 2021 debut, ‘The Sticky Fingers’. This new album explores sisterhood, resilience and healing from grief while embracing warmth and hope for the future. A personal concoction of songs formed in industrial Berlin via coastal Margate, the album is eclectic yet deeply personal.

Alongside longtime collaborator Lo Selbo, Sarges shapes intricate soundscapes with airy flutes, layered choirs, and vintage organs to create warmth and vulnerability. With The Clash dubbing the albums titular single ‘Girl Missing’ as a “zesty dose of indie-pop energy, complete with string section”, fans and newcomers alike are in for a treat as she plays an intimate show at Hull Central Library as part of her European tour.

Councillor Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure, said: “Hull Libraries have been hosting live gigs with Get It Loud in Libraries since 2018, attracting music fans from across the country.

“The library’s most recent shows with Rianne Downey were a double sell-out with almost 400 people attending the matinee and evening sets!

“Being able to host fantastic events like Get It Loud In Libraries is largely thanks to the James Reckitt Library Trust, providing huge support for Hull’s public library provision.”

Get it Loud in Libraries brings a vibrant programme of live music to local libraries, funded by Arts Council England and Paul Hamlyn Foundation to engage and inspire new audiences. Live music in local libraries gives audiences of all ages the rare chance to get up close and personal with their favourite acts.

Get It Loud in Libraries has previously hosted a number of acclaimed musical acts including Adele, Idles, Wolf Alice and The Last Dinner Party. Audiences give resoundingly positive feedback to this literary-meets-musical event environment, praising the ‘tremendous surroundings’ and the high calibre of acts.

Tickets for the Albertine Sarges gig at Hull Central Library on Sunday (9 November) at 2.30pm are on sale for £12 and available here.
