A phased road closure will be in place overnight.

Brighton Street: A63 roundabout resurfacing works

Hull City Council to commence emergency carriageway resurfacing works at the Brighton Street roundabout, located beneath the A63 – near St Andrews Quay Retail Park.

Providing a key access point to the A63, this scheme will address urgent repairs required on the carriageway and assist National Highways, who need to use the area for an upcoming diversion. This scheme will ensure the diversion is safe and reliable for all users.

The work will involve removing the damaged road surface and laying a new one, to improve grip and skid resistance.

Work is due to commence on Monday 10 November and is expected to take a maximum of five nights to complete – weather permitting.

To keep construction workers and road users safe, a phased road closure, with subsequent traffic management and diversion routes, will be in place overnight from 7pm to 6am. The diversion route will be clearly signposted and distinctly separate from those for the ongoing A63 Castle Street improvements.

Traffic from Brighton Street will be redirected via Daltry Street roundabout to head east on the A63 and reach St Andrews Quay. Road users leaving St Andrews Quay for Hessle Road will be diverted to Priory Way, then back along the A63 westbound to Brighton Street.

Local residents and businesses will be notified in advance, and information boards are already in place around the roundabout.

Urgent repairs are required on the carriageway.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “Improving the condition of our road network is one of our key priorities, to ensure all carriageways remain safe and reliable for all users.

“This scheme builds on the improvements already made to the other two roundabouts on Brighton Street, helping to ensure a reliable route for road users. In addition, the work will also help assist National Highways, who need to use the area for a diversion.

“We recognise that roadworks can be inconvenient, but by carrying out the work overnight, we’re doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum.

“We thank local residents and businesses in advance for their patience as we work to enhance the highway infrastructure in this area of Hull.”

This scheme will be carried out by PBS Construction Limited on behalf of the council.
