Energy efficient and affordable – building begins on dozens of new Hull homes

Affordable homes that will be some of the most energy efficient in the city are now being built in the Orchard Park area of Hull.

Construction has started at Isledane, where 34 new high-quality houses available for social rent from Hull City Council will boost the housing options available in a priority regeneration area of the city.

The scheme includes installing environmentally friendly low carbon features such as air source heat pumps, which can help to save money on electricity and heating bills and help to tackle climate change.

The new houses will add to 99 further affordable homes already in development at nearby Dane Park (pictured above).

Caddick Construction Limited is carrying out the building work after recently entering into a contract with Hull City Council.

Work on site has now begun, with the project expected to be completed in early 2027.

Portfolio holder for housing, Councillor Paul Drake-Davis, said: “Residents have told us that their top priority is having somewhere safe, comfortable and affordable to live.

“We’re able to provide that whilst also making these homes really energy efficient.

“This latest development in Orchard Park allows us to expand the available housing options, and they add to the hundreds of homes already built in the area in recent times.”

Hull City Council’s Housing Growth Strategy outlines plans to facilitate the delivery of almost 6,000 homes in the city over the next 6 years.
