Essential resurfacing work to commence on Orchard Park Road

Hull City Council is preparing to begin an essential resurfacing scheme on Orchard Park Road later this month.

The scheme will improve the existing carriageway between Ellerburn Avenue and the eastern junction of Hall Road.

The intention of the scheme is to renew the failed surface of the carriageway, to ensure the highway provides a safe and even surface for traffic, and that it has adequate grip and skid resistance.

The work will start on Monday 16 September and is planned to take two weeks to complete – weather permitting.

To allow these works to be done safely, they will be completed under a full road closure. A signed diversion route will be in place via Orchard Park Road (west) and Hall Road, depending on the direction of travel.

Access for residents, businesses, and the Orchard Centre will be maintained via Ellerburn Avenue, however access may be restricted at certain times. The contractor will be onsite throughout the scheme to assist with any access issues.

Further, scheduled bus services on this section of Orchard Park Road will be temporarily suspended during this road closure. Notices will be placed at the affected bus stops with more details about the services affected.

The pedestrian footways will remain open, bin collections are scheduled to continue as normal, and access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, and highways at Hull City Council, said: “This section of the carriageway is in poor condition, so I am happy to hear that the reconstruction and resurfacing work will be carried out imminently.

“Not only does this work help us futureproof our road network, but it also helps keep the road safe for all users.

“I urge motorists to take note of the diversion route, plan their journeys in advance, and use an alternative mode of transport if possible.

“We understand that roadworks can be inconvenient, and we thank residents and motorists for their patience and understanding whilst we carry out these works.”

The scheme will be carried out by PBS Construction on behalf of the council.
