A new temporary mortuary is to be provided in Hull in response to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
The facility will be sited at Plot 44C Stockholm Road, the former McBride’s site and provides a capacity that can be adapted to deal with any rise in fatalities across the Humber region caused by coronavirus.
The mortuary will help to ensure that local authorities across the Humber meet the requirements of the Coronavirus Act 2020, which passed into law on 27 March. The plans are part of the strategic response to the pandemic led by Humber Local Resilience Forum (Humber LRF) and will supplement existing mortuary provision on the North Bank and South Bank.
Chris Blacksell, Chair of the Humber LRF said: “Tragically, we anticipate the number of deaths in our region will rise and this is why we must ensure that we have in place adequate mortuary space to manage this.
“All partners in the Humber LRF want to ensure each person receives respectful, dignified care on their final journey, and this facility is essential to that.”
