Hull City Council has been shortlisted for two prestigious MRW National Recycling Awards.

The council’s streetscene services have been shortlisted in the Local Authority Success and Campaign of the Year categories.

The shortlistings recognise the council’s educational-led recycling programme and city-wide communications and marketing campaign, which have supported the successful roll-out of Simpler Recycling in Hull.

The shortlisted initiatives combine education, digital tools, and engagement to encourage long-term behaviour change in line with the new government reforms.

Through the Talking Rubbish educational programme, dedicated Simpler Recycling website, waste web app, and targeted campaigns, the council is helping residents recycle more confidently and embedding lasting habits across generations.

This recognition comes just weeks after the service won the highly commend prize in the Green Council of the Year category at this year’s Political Purpose Awards.

Councillor Charles Quinn, cabinet portfolio holder for environment at Hull City Council said: “We are incredibly proud to be shortlisted for two MRW National Recycling Awards – our second shortlist this year.

“We want to make recycling as easy as possible for our residents, and these initiatives are helping us drive behaviour change and build the foundations for a more environmentally responsible city for future generations.

“Being recognised on a national stage is a fantastic achievement and reflects our commitment to delivering a high-quality service that is simple, and easy for residents to engage with.”

The MRW National Recycling Awards recognise excellence, innovation, and achievement across the recycling and resource management sector.

The awards bring together individuals, organisations and project leaders at the heart of efforts to build more circular and efficient management of resources, while also working to reduce waste and rethinking consumption.

The winners will be announced on Tuesday 1 December 2026.
