Hull Fair to see parking barriers installed on nearby streets

Parking barriers will be installed for Hull Fair 2023, to prevent fairgoers from abandoning their cars.

Due to past unauthorised parking on the central reservations on Chanterlands Avenue and Spring Bank West, Hull City Council will once again install parking barriers in these areas.

It is hoped that these barriers will prevent people from abandoning their cars on the central reservations during the event and improve overall safety for both drivers and pedestrians in the area.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Roads, and Highways, said: “Following concerns raised by nearby residents, we have been focused on improving safety and unauthorised parking in this area. So, I’m pleased to hear that the barriers are going to be installed again this year.

“Hull Fair is always a very busy period for the roads around the fairground, with a limited number of parking spaces at the MKM stadium.

“Therefore, we recommend people visiting the fair use alternative transport, including the special Hull Fair bus services and park and ride at Hessle and Humber Bridge, where possible.

“We want everyone who is going to enjoy Hull Fair – but this should be done safely for other fairgoers and in such a way that doesn’t disrupt the lives of those in the area.”

Hull Fair will run from Friday 6 October to Saturday 14 October and will be closed on Sunday 8 October, with Hull City Council traffic enforcement officers on duty throughout.
