£3,600 bill for property dealer after council forced to tidy front yard

A property dealer has been ordered to pay £3,659 after Hull City Council was forced to tidy up rubbish in the front yard of a house.

Birmingham-based Barham Property Ltd has been prosecuted for failing to deal with the condition of a property on Hampshire Street, off Hessle Road.

The council received complaints about the waste that had accumulated at the property in July last year.

After unsuccessful attempts to engage with the owner to resolve the issue, the council issued a statutory notice requiring land to be tidied.

When this wasn’t done, the council entered the property and carried out the work required.

Barham Property Ltd of Pinfold Street, Birmingham, failed to attend Hull Magistrates’ Court on 15 March and was convicted in its absence and ordered to pay fines and cost to the council totalling £3,659.

Doug Sharp, the council’s Head of Waste Management, said: “Untidy land and properties are unsightly, unhygienic and bring down neighbourhoods.

“We urge owners and occupiers to act responsibly in the maintenance of their properties and ensure any waste is recycled or disposed of properly.”

People can report untidy land online or by calling 01482 300300.
