Hull Culture and Leisure Ltd is joining forces with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to hold a free first aid awareness course.
The free course is for anyone aged 12 and above (under 16s must be accompanied by an adult) and will cover everything from responding to choking, the recovery position and how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator).
On average, 30,000 people each year suffer a sudden cardiac arrest outside of hospital, with 20 per cent of these incidents occurring in public. AEDs can play a significant role in saving the lives of people who suffer heart attacks in public. It is estimated that a shock from an AED, alongside CPR treatment, increases survival rates to 75-80 per cent.
Alison Walker, Director of Leisure for Hull Culture and Leisure Ltd, said: “A knowledge of basic first aid is so incredibly important and can save lives. It is the perfect opportunity for volunteers of local clubs and organisations, parents, and anyone who is interested to learn about first aid to gain some invaluable knowledge.”
The session will be held on Thursday 14 April 10am – 12noon at Ennerdale Leisure Centre.

Anyone with a Live It fitness membership can book using a membership number. Non-members can select ‘Guest Login’, choose Ennerdale Leisure Centre and select the first aid awareness training course and follow the booking procedure.
